Furman students Elizabeth Reid and Justin Alexander joined the project team and began designing a program to collect books for the library. Dianne Kuhl joined the team to assume some of the planning and fund raising responsibilities. Meet the U.S.A. project team by clicking here.

May, 2000: The need for an English Language Library in Western Ukraine was identified by Alexander Laevchenko in May, 2000 in a letter to CORBIA president, Bill Coleman. After several discussions it was decided that UCPI and CORBIA would attempt to establish such a library in Ternopil, Ukraine during the year 2000. UCPI would obtain the building and equipment for the library and CORBIA would obtain the books. (Read Mr. Laevchenko's letter by clicking on the link above.)

UCPI is a non-profit organization in Ukraine, which is somewhat different than a non-profit in the U.S.A. In Ukraine, a non- profit is limited in how it can raise funds. It must not sell anything (goods or services) for a fee. It can only raise money through memberships and donations. In order for a library to succeed, it must therefore have memberships and sponsors who are willing to contribute to its operating costs. Such a group has been formed and it is the intention of UCPI to hold classes, art shows, and cultural events of various types in order to raise money upon which to operate.
