The English Language Library

Keep checking this page. We will add new information as it develops

February 28, 2001: We now have approximately 15,000 books boxed and ready for shipment. Since our goal is to ship 20,000 books (a full container), we still need about 5,000 more books before we ship. We also need about $7,000 more in order to set up and operate the library until it can generate its own stream of revenue. We thank all of those who have donated books and money to this effort and who have worked so tirelessly to make this project a reality. Your continuing support will soon help us ship the container of books and establish the first English Language Library in all of Ukraine.

October 26: Carolyn Coleman and Dianne Kuhl catalogue and box books for shipment to Ukraine. We now have nearly 200 boxes containing about 12,000 books. We still need about 8-10 thousand more books to complete the container load. Our workspace is beginning to get crowded and we may soon start storing book boxes in a hallway.

Oct. 6: Hillcrest High School of Simpsonville adopted this Library project. They held a competition among the classes to see which could bring in the most books. They have collected and donated over 4500 books to date, bringing our total to approximately 10,000 books or approximately 1/2 of the total amount needed for shipment. Congratulations Hillcrest for such a terrific contribution.
The winning class: first period class of English teacher Bill Evans.
Sept. 30: We now have approx. 100 boxes, containing nearly 5,000 books ready for shipment. This is about 25% of the total number of books and boxes we need for the container load.

As of Sep. 20 we have boxed 54 boxes weighing an average of 76 pounds per box, left photo. We still have a number of books to be catalogued and boxed (right photo).
