Libraries for Ternopil
A photographic record of the loading of the Library container.

Many people worked for nearly a year collecting books for this project. Not only were books collected, they were sorted and screened for suitability, then boxed. The boxes were then stored in a warehouse as individual boxes. When the collecting was complete, the football team of Furman University volunteered to move all of the boxes to another warehouse where they were once again sorted and palletized for shipping. The photos below record the last day of the project in America after the boxes have been palletized and are ready for shipment.

We owe thanks to many unnamed individuals and organizations for all of the work they have done to make this project possible for the people of Ternopil.

The lines below describe the photographs in the collection. To view a photo, simply click anywhere on the description line.

1. Some of the eighteen pallets in the warehouse

2. Pallets showing various identification labels
Each pallet has a large white tag showing the individual pallet number. Numbers range from 1 to 18. Each box on each pallet contains a red circle lable upon which is written the box number. Box numbers range from 1 to 408. Some boxes have a yellow circle lable. These yellow labels indicate that box contains medical books for TSMA's medical library.

9. A tight fit of the pallets on the container
Our calculations were very close. When the pallets were loaded there was only about one inch of clearance for placing the two pallets side by side even when the boxes were aligned correctly on the pallet. We had to realign a couple of the pallets in order for them to fit in the snug confines of the container.
