Since English books are difficult to find in Ukraine and very expensive to order, Students have
difficulty in obtaining adequate study materials for the English language. To solve this problem Mr. Petro Kovch,
Principle of School No. 19 and Mr. Alexander Levchenko of UCPI used the UCPI/CORBIA
web site's virtual library as a resource for the play material. The play was read from the web site,
converted to a script and then produced as a play.
It was a big success in many ways. In addition to being entertaining for everyone in the audience,
the play gave the children a good opportunity to practice English and to apply the language they are
studying to a cultural event. At the end of the play, Mr. Alexander Levchenko of UCPI presented the student
cast members with a small present and a few words of encouragement.
The photo below shows Mr. Levchenko presenting a box of candy and a set of books in English to Ms. Verbovenko,
the class's English teacher and greeting Mr. Kovch, the school principle as the play's cast looks on.
Soon the children of Ternopil region will have the first English language library in all of Ukraine. In the
meantime, UCPI and the Ternopil area schools will continue to use the Virtual Library on the UCPI/CORBIA web site.
Many people of the Greenville area of South Carolina are collecting books to send to Ukraine. The
