My name is Svitlana Yelfimova. I am an English teacher at school 27 in Ternopil. I have been working there for
6 years. Our school is very big & there are about 2 thousand pupils.
I think the most important thing for an English teacher is to teach practical English. Pupils should speak English a lot, communicate & read English books. From the very beginning I have been fond of English fairy-tales. I asked my pupils if they have some at home to bring them to school. Since then I have had dozens of books with illustrations, printed in the USA. (Actually I cannot buy such sorts of books in bookshops.) But now my pupils are reading the Xerox copies at the home reading lessons. They are reading "Bambi" and listening to it on the tape recorder. My dream is to have at least 10 books of each tale and a cassette. I am sure if you have both records and text; the results will be perfect. The pronunciation is much better and pupils try to read fluently, imitating what they are listening to. But I have only two cassettes: "Bambi" and "Jungle book". Speaking about the English pronunciation, I prefer to use C. Graham's programmes "jazz chants". It helps me to teach conversational American English; the natural rhythm, stress & intonation patterns. My pupils like it a lot because it's very easy to remember very useful & common phrases, poems and songs. Now we are waiting for the guests from school 19 to present their performance of "Snow White and the 7 dwarves". Moreover, my plan is to act a fairy-tail but I'm in search of appropriate tale. With best wishes Svitlana |
